ASML Holding will establish a reuse-and-repair centre in Beijing this year, reaffirming its commitment to China despite ongoing US-China technology tensions.

The Dutch company, the world’s leading supplier of advanced chipmaking equipment, revealed the plan in its annual report published on Wednesday. The facility is the only major project listed under the report’s "circular economy" section, which focuses on parts and tools.
ASML has been unable to sell its extreme ultraviolet lithography systems to Chinese clients due to US export control regulations. The Dutch government has also considered restricting ASML’s ability to repair and maintain semiconductor equipment in China.
China became ASML’s largest market in 2024, accounting for 36.1% of total sales, surpassing Taiwan for the first time. The company reported €10.2 billion (USD 10.9 billion) in sales from China last year, while Taiwan contributed €4.3 billion, or 15.4% of total revenue. In 2023, Taiwan was ASML’s top market with €8.1 billion in sales, compared with €7.3 billion from China.
ASML attributed its strong performance in China to a backlog of lithography system orders built over previous years. The company expects sales to China to normalise once these orders are fulfilled.
The company also noted that its memory-chip-equipment business performed well in 2024, driven by artificial intelligence-related memory demand. China accounted for the largest absolute geographic sales in this segment.
Despite its success in China, ASML acknowledged that geopolitical risks could impact future sales. The company’s ability to deliver systems and services in China has been affected by increasing export regulations from the US, the Netherlands, and Japan. Exports of advanced semiconductor equipment from these countries to China require special approval.
In October, ASML projected that China’s contribution to its total sales would drop to about 20% in 2025. Chief Executive Christophe Fouquet also warned of growing pressure from Washington to impose further restrictions on ASML’s sales to China.
