Hong Kong Sees Surge in Enterprise AI Adoption Supported by Government Policies

Hong Kong experiences a rise in enterprise AI adoption driven by advanced computing infrastructure. Dell Technologies promotes its Dell AI Factory approach to accelerate AI adoption in the region. Government policies and support contribute to the development of a robust AI infrastructure in Hong Kong.

At a recent tech event, industry experts highlighted the growing interest in deploying AI to enhance efficiency and performance.

Jackie Kwong, general manager of Dell Technologies' Hong Kong and Macau operations, acknowledged the eagerness of businesses to leverage AI for improvement. He emphasised the challenge of driving efficiencies and optimising processes without manual intervention and complexity.

Dell Technologies, a top-three vendor of AI-optimised servers globally, is promoting its Dell AI Factory approach to accelerate AI adoption in Hong Kong and Macau. The company estimates that all data centre operators in Hong Kong are already utilising its servers or hosting them in their facilities.

Data centres, which provide secure and controlled environments for servers and data storage systems, are becoming increasingly popular among enterprises for hosting and managing computing infrastructure for AI projects. This trend is supported by growing interest from businesses and government backing.

Alex Chan, vice-president for enterprise and digital solutions at NTT Com Asia, highlighted the importance of government support in developing a robust AI infrastructure to bolster local industries. The recent Dell forum in Hong Kong, attended by over 700 participants, underscored the heightened local interest in AI following a policy statement by Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po on responsible AI application in the financial market.

Key points from the policy statement include financial institutions devising strategies for AI implementation, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology offering its AI model and computing resources to the financial services sector, and financial regulators updating rules and guidelines on AI practices.

A panel discussion at the Dell forum, featuring experts from NTT Com Asia, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Manulife, revealed that financial institutions and enterprises in Hong Kong are keen on exploring AI solutions that enhance capabilities while meeting regulatory requirements.

A study by the Hong Kong Productivity Council found that 41% of the city's enterprises are either using AI or planning to adopt it in their operations. The survey, which included responses from 267 companies, indicated a significant interest in AI adoption, particularly among small- and medium-sized enterprises.
