Huang highlighted that the next phase of AI development will involve services capable of "reasoning," a significant advancement that will rely on the reduction of computing costs.

Huang envisions next-generation AI tools that can process complex queries by engaging in hundreds or even thousands of steps, enabling them to contemplate and generate their own conclusions. This level of reasoning would distinguish future AI software from existing systems like OpenAI's ChatGPT, which Huang acknowledged using daily.

To pave the way for these advancements, Nvidia plans to enhance its chip performance annually by two to three times, all while maintaining cost and energy efficiency. This strategic approach aims to revolutionise how AI systems handle inference, enhancing their ability to identify patterns and make informed decisions.

Huang expressed optimism about the potential for significant cost reductions in AI intelligence, emphasising the value of driving down costs to enable advanced capabilities like reasoning during inference processes.

Based in Santa Clara, California, Nvidia currently dominates over 90% of the market for accelerator chips, which are crucial for accelerating AI tasks. The company has diversified its offerings to include computers, software, AI models, networking solutions, and other services, as part of its efforts to encourage wider adoption of artificial intelligence technologies.

Despite its market leadership, Nvidia faces challenges from competitors seeking to disrupt its position. Major data center operators like Amazon.com Inc.'s AWS and Microsoft Corp. are developing proprietary alternatives. Additionally, Advanced Micro Devices Inc., a key rival in gaming chips, has emerged as a formidable player in the AI sector. AMD is set to unveil updates on its artificial intelligence products at an upcoming event.
