The agreement, signed recently, marks a significant step towards advancing artificial intelligence technologies in the Southeast Asian nation.

Moreover, Nvidia has made headlines by acquiring VinBrain, a healthcare startup under the Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup. Although the financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, this strategic move underscores Nvidia's commitment to expanding its presence in Vietnam's burgeoning tech landscape.

During a visit to Hanoi last year, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed the company's keen interest in strengthening collaborations with Vietnam's leading tech companies. Huang emphasised the importance of supporting Vietnam in nurturing talent for the development of AI and digital infrastructure.

In a separate development, Vietnamese tech firm FPT announced plans to establish a US$200 million artificial intelligence factory, leveraging Nvidia's graphic chip and software. This initiative underscores the growing synergy between international tech giants like Nvidia and Vietnam's dynamic tech sector.

The agreement between Nvidia and the Vietnamese government was formalised in Hanoi, with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in attendance. While specific financial details regarding the upcoming R&D centre and data centre were not disclosed, the partnership signifies a mutual commitment to driving innovation in the AI space.

Prime Minister Chinh highlighted the transformative potential of AI in driving economic growth and underscored Vietnam's aspirations to leverage AI for clean energy initiatives. Chinh expressed ambitious goals, stating, "We want to conquer not only AI, but also space and the ocean. AI will turn the sun, the wind, and the waves into clean energy for us."
