Samsung Joins TSMC in Halting Sub-7nm Chip Supply to China
Samsung follows TSMC in halting sub-7nm chip supply to China. Mainland Chinese manufacturers, including SMIC, facing challenges with low yield rates for 7nm process. Limited production capacity due to smaller nodes and lack of commercial customers in AI and GPU sectors.
Economic Daily News reported that Samsung has sent a notice to its mainland clients regarding this matter. While Samsung declined to comment on the issue, mainland Chinese manufacturers, such as SMIC, are facing challenges with low yield rates for the 7nm process and smaller nodes, impacting their production capacity.
Despite the possibility of continuing production using DUV (Deep Ultraviolet Lithography) technology without cost considerations, mainland Chinese manufacturers are struggling due to limited commercial customers in the AI and GPU sectors who are actively submitting wafers for production, as per the report.
